Newborn Care at Care for Kids

We are so excited to meet your newborn! Bringing a new baby home is such a special time, and we are here to help make sure your little one gets a healthy start.

A newborn wellness visit is an important part of your infant’s early health and development. Ideally, your baby’s first visit should take place between 3–5 days after birth, but it is never too late to get started! Newborns should also have wellness visits at 2 weeks and 2 months of age. Some parents also like to schedule an additional weight check at 1 month to make sure their baby is growing and feeding well.

During your newborn visit, we will:

  • Check weight and measurement

  • Ensure they are meeting important early milestones

We also provide education and support on topics like infant feeding, sleep, and safety. Whether you have questions about breastfeeding, formula feeding, or adjusting to life with a newborn, we are happy to help!

A Safe and Comfortable Space for Your Newborn

We know that keeping your newborn healthy and safe is a top priority, especially during those first few weeks of life! While Care for Kids offers both primary and urgent care, we take extra precautions when welcoming our tiniest patients. FAQ

When should my newborn have their first wellness visit?

Your newborn should ideally have their first wellness visit within 3–5 days after birth, or sooner if recommended by your baby’s hospital care team. This visit helps us check your baby’s weight, feeding, and overall health. If you haven’t scheduled a visit yet, it’s never too late to get started!

What happens during a newborn wellness visit?

During your baby’s visit, we will check their weight, length, growth, and overall development. We’ll also discuss feeding habits, sleep, diaper changes, and newborn safety. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and make sure your little one is off to a healthy start.

Is it safe to bring my newborn to a clinic that also offers urgent care?

Yes! At Care for Kids, we understand how important it is to protect your newborn from exposure to illness. Although we offer both urgent and primary care, newborns can be brought directly into a private exam room, away from other patients who may be sick. We take extra precautions to help keep our tiniest patients safe and comfortable.

How often should my newborn see a healthcare provider?

Newborns typically have wellness visits within their first few days of life, at 2 weeks, and again at 2 months. Some families also choose to schedule a weight check around 1 month. Your provider may recommend additional visits depending on your baby’s needs.

Can I ask questions about breastfeeding, formula feeding, or newborn sleep?

Absolutely! We know that bringing home a newborn comes with lots of questions. Our providers are happy to offer guidance on breastfeeding, formula feeding, healthy sleep habits, and general newborn care. We’re here to support both you and your baby!

What should I bring to my newborn's first appointment?

We recommend bringing your baby’s hospital discharge paperwork, any feeding or weight records you have, insurance information, and a list of questions or concerns. You can also bring any supplies your baby may need during the visit, such as diapers, wipes, and feeding essentials.
