Here is Your Back-to-School Health Checklist:
✅ Schedule your child’s annual well visit
An annual wellness visit allows your pediatrician to ensure your child is growing, developing and staying healthy.
💉 Ensure vaccinations are up to date
To attend school, many students must have certain vaccinations.
🏈 Don’t forget about sports physicals
Physical activity is important for a child’s health and wellness. If your child wants to play a school sport, or join band, cheer, dance or any other activity that requires a physical, be sure to get their sports physical done.
🥗 Promote healthy habits
Kids who eat healthy and are physically active learn better. Implementing healthy habits now will help your child have an easier transition back into school.

Kids are going to get sick. Whether they come down with a sore throat, fever, ear infection, pink eye, stomach bug or get a scraped knee or bruise, our pediatric providers offer same-day care, 7 days a week and with extended hours to fit your busy family’s schedule.

FAQ
When should I schedule my child’s annual wellness visit?
It’s best to schedule your child’s annual wellness visit before school starts. Summer appointments tend to fill quickly, so booking early helps ensure your child is ready for the new school year. Get started at the form above!
Why are annual wellness visits important?
Annual wellness visits allow your pediatric provider to monitor your child’s physical growth, developmental milestones, emotional well-being, and overall health. They also provide an opportunity to discuss nutrition, sleep, school performance, and any concerns you may have.
How do I know if my child needs vaccinations before school?
School vaccination requirements vary by age and grade level. Your pediatric provider can review your child’s immunization record and help ensure they are up to date with any required vaccines.
Does my child need a sports physical?
Many school-sponsored activities (including sports, marching band, cheerleading, dance, and other extracurricular programs) require a sports physical before participation. Completing it before practices begin helps avoid delays.
Can my child get a wellness visit and sports physical at the same appointment?
Yes! If your child is due for both their annual wellness visit and sports physical, our provider can complete both during the same appointment.
What healthy habits should we focus on before school starts?
Encourage a consistent sleep schedule, balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, proper hydration, and good handwashing habits. Establishing routines before school begins can make the transition much easier.
Where should I take my child if they get sick during the school year?
We have 22 clinics across Texas that offer both urgent and primary care! Our clinics are a great option for many common childhood illnesses and minor injuries, including fevers, sore throats, ear infections, pink eye, stomach bugs, sprains, cuts, and minor burns. If your child experiences a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
Why choose a primary care provider for back-to-school care?
Primary care providers specialize in caring for children and understand their unique developmental and healthcare needs. Whether it’s preventive care, sports physicals, vaccinations, or same-day treatment for illnesses and injuries, primary-focused care helps keep your child healthy throughout the school year.
