Staying Active During the Winter Months

Here in Texas, the weather can quickly change from warm and sunny, to cold and rainy. As parents, it can be a challenge to keep your children active and entertained during the winter months. We’ve put together a list of activities that will keep you and your little one’s busy and happy this winter.

  1. Hide-and-Seek

This simple game never seems to get old. Having your children hide indoors is much less worrisome for Mom and Dad, and you’ll love to hear the giggles of your kids when they find each other –or you! On a cloudy day, turn out the lights and use flashlights while you play.

  1. Make a Home-Movie

Kids have wild imaginations, and they love to tell stories. Why not let them come up with a story and act it out? Thanks to iPhones, the filming will be easy, and it will be something you’ll have to look back on and treasure for years to come.

  1. Go Camping Inside

It may be too cold to go camping outdoors, but you can certainly pop open the tent and have a campout right in your living room. To make it extra special, plan a scavenger hunt or make s’mores as a family!

  1. Have a Dance Party

Dancing can be a great form of exercise, and kids love to get moving to their favorite song! They may want to dress up for the dance party, or choose their own songs. Make it a memorable day by joining in on the fun with them!

  1. Go Swimming in January!

You may not be able to head to the neighborhood pool, but you can certainly pull out the goggles, swim gear, and bath toys and let the kids go “swimming” in the bathtub. They may even get clean in the process!

However you and your family choose to get active this winter, remember to have fun while you do it! Staying active and engaged is so vital for you and your child’s health.
