Summer Safety for Your Family

With the temperature rising in Texas there are a lot of things to remember in order to protect your family this summer! Summer safety can involve anything from sunburn, dehydration, to even West Nile, the outdoors can turn into a dangerous place if you are not proactive. Here are a few tips to remember when enjoying your summer of fun.

1. Sunburn – The best way to prevent sunburn is obviously to not have any exposure to sun but we all know that isn’t reasonable during the summer! If you are going to be in the sun for a long time try to stay away from the most intense sunlight times (11a-4p). If you are going to be outside then make sure you are putting on sufficient amount of sunscreen and the KEY to avoiding sunburn is to reapply!

2. Dehydration – If you are going to be out and about in the heat for a long period of time, always make sure you carry water along with you. Drinking water throughout your activities will keep your body hydrated and energized to get you through the heat.

3. West Nile – Mosquitos are a part of living in Texas so be proactive with your family by applying bug spray when you go outside and reapplying if you maintain activity outdoors. You can also use citronella candles to keep them away! If you or a family member does get bit by a mosquito, try to avoid itching it because that will only aggravate the healing process.
