January 7, 2016 Melissa Bauman

Each year as January rolls around, we strive to improve something about our lives. No matter how great the intentions are, sometimes keeping up with them can be a challenge. However, with the right tools, you can make sure keep up with all of your 2016 goals, and all other appointments and commitments. If you’re striving to be more organized and punctual this year, here are a few tips and tools to help you achieve that goal:

1. Invest in a planner

Writing down and checking off tasks is a great visual way to ensure that you have all your ducks in a row each day. Whether you invest in a paper planner or use an app, this is a tried-and-true method to avoid forgetting important dates and daily errands. There are a variety of styles and sizes for all of you busy moms to keep on your desk or throw in your bag to stay organized on-the-go!

2. Hang a dry-erase calendar in your home

By writing appointments of each family member in an easy-to-spot location, you can assure that no dentist appointment, soccer  practice, or play date falls through the cracks. It’s also a good idea to color-code each family member’s commitments so even little ones can see when they have something coming up.

3. Plan ahead to avoid scrambling around

As we all know, not everything goes as planned, but it never hurts to plan anyways! Try planning out dinner each Sunday night to avoid a mad dash to get something healthy and delicious on the table. Also, try planning out your daily tasks at the beginning of the week so you can have a balanced week rather than a few hectic days!

4. Don’t over commit

The best way to balance your schedule is to not overload it in the first place. Make sure you are considering quality of activities over quantity of activities when planning your children’s (and your own!) schedules.
