She isn’t a Superhero—She’s your Mom
Happy Mother’s Day!
She isn’t a superhero—she’s your mom. She works as a fully-booked chauffeur, picking the baby up from daycare, and then driving you to your ballet class and your brother to soccer practice. She makes multitasking look easy, helping you with your homework while simultaneously preparing a well-balanced meal—which, of course, will be ready on time. She makes bath-time fun, splishing and splashing with Dr. Duck, giggling along with you as your squeals of laughter fill the room. She knows that the fluffy pink towel is your favorite, and does a load of laundry every few days to ensure that it’s clean and waiting. She is better than a professional hairdresser, because she is able to carefully remove the tangles from your ringlets without making you cry. As bedtime approaches, she always remembers to turn on the nightlight so that the monsters stay under the bed. She kisses you on the forehead and pulls the blankets up to your chin, then settles in to read you one—no, two—okay, fine, you can have three—bedtime stories. As she walks through the doorway, her familiar figure casting comforting shadows on the wall, she turns and says “Good night. Sleep tight.” You roll over and close your eyes, knowing that she’ll be there tomorrow, ready to act as your caregiver, your chef, your mentor, your partner-in-crime, your coach, your shoulder-to-cry-on, and, most importantly, your best friend.
Happy Mother’s Day to all Moms and Moms-to-Be! None of us would be where we are today without your patience and unconditional love.
