April – Autism Awareness Month
Every month different diseases or illnesses are highlighted to bring awareness to a cause. Autism Spectrum Disorder, according to the CDC, “is a group of developmental disabilities that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges”. Although, the definition is different for everyone who is affected by someone on the spectrum.
There are many forms of therapy for people on the Autism Spectrum. One form that stands out is the use of equine therapy. Equine therapy is individualized for each client. This form of therapy helps with many social, emotional and behavioral skills. Horses and trainers work together to ensure that each lesson is specific to the individual. Equine therapy is a fairly new form of treatment, but has been found successful for many persons. If you are interested in sharing this form of therapy with someone that you know on the Autism Spectrum, we have listed 3 different organizations in the Houston, Austin and Dallas/Fort Worth areas.
